Burnham Market is a very pretty Georgian village. As well as a bakery, butcher, fish shop, wine shop and grocery shop there are a host of small independent shops selling all sorts of things. It’s a really good place to window shop with lovely cafes to take a rest. Burnham Market is a delightful destination for visitors of all ages at any time of year.

Beach

Beaches

There are lots of lovely beaches in this area. Holkham is a favourite with film crews (The Eagle has Landed, Kingdom, Shakespeare in Love, Annihilation) while Brancaster sits just below the famous West Norfolk Golf course and seems to go on forever. You can try paddle boarding and kayaking up the creeks at Burnham Overy or crabbing from the Quay. You can take the ferry out to Scolt Head Island and swim in the lagoon. Nothing beats a Norfolk beach and there are lots to choose from.

Restaurant

Restaurants

Indulge in the delicious local cuisine by visiting the villages’ renowned restaurants. Socius, The Hoste, and Number 29 are much talked about and written up. If you want a table at Socius I would recommend booking as soon as you have booked your accommodation.

Walk

Walks, Cycling & other things to do

Norfolk is a great place for walking and cycle rides. We have a large file full of local walks with copies for you to take with you. I have also included cycle rides from the house and we have a cycle rack in the drive so if you are a keen cyclist, definitely bring your bicycles (we don't provide locks on the rack and don't take liability for bikes stored there). One of the great advantages, in my opinion anyway, is the lack of serious hills. Holkham, Sandringham, Houghton and Hindringham are all close by if you like visiting stately homes. Titchwell, Snettisham and Pensthorpe are a must for bird lovers. Activities for children

When the weather is good you will probably spend all your time on the beach or in the dunes, but if you want a change, or the weather is being tricky, then a trip on the Wells/Walsingham railway is a fun way to spend an afternoon. The Burnham Market playground is a must and couldn’t be much closer as it is on Station Road. It is also worth visiting the playgrounds in the other Burnham villages as well as the fantastic ropes course in the trees at Holkham. There are soft play areas in Wells, Fakenham and at Norfolk Lavender. Further a field you can take a boat trip to see the seals from Morston out to Blakeney Point, you can take a day trip over to the tank museum at Muckleburgh or a trip to see where the King lives at Sandringham - you will never run out of ideas. 99 Flake ice creams and crabbing are the highlight of the day.
