May I bring my dog?
Yes we love dogs but think it is sensible to have a few house rules which are: No dogs upstairs or on any of the sofas/chairs. Please can they sleep in the dog corridor (along the front of the house with a tile floor). Please bring your own dog beds and bowls. Only 2 dogs per booking and nothing larger than a Labrador or excessively fluffy. There is a £25 fee per dog.
What is the origin of the house?
My father was a land agent and I grew up about 20 minutes east from Burnham Market. When my father retired in the late 80s, my parents bought Barn Cottage which is the white house opposite. It came with some land across the road and my siblings and I thought they were a bit mad when they announced they were going to build a house. They built their house and they lived very happily in this wonderful village until recently. My husband and I have done a few updates to the house and here we are.
What do you think makes a good holiday let?
I have been staying in holiday homes for most of my adult life - some good and some less good. I have tried to think what I would like to find in a holiday house - games, cards, cook books (I might have gone a bit over board here), extra blankets, white linen, hairdryers and hopefully a relaxed vibe. It’s not a super fancy pants house, but I hope it is very comfortable and you will feel it is a home from home.
Can we book for next year when we are there?
Yes… Our dream is that people like Perrystone Cottage so much that they come year after year and really feel as if it is their home, as well as ours. If this happens, I think we will really feel that we have nailed it! Fingers crossed. If you wanted to leave some holiday stuff here (in a reasonably sized plastic box with your name on it) I am sure we can store it until the next year. Just email me on info@perrystonecottage.co.uk to arrange this. We have also talked about giving a discount for a winter weekend if you have stayed for a summer week.
What equipment is in the kitchen?
We have redone the kitchen this year and there is a large French fridge with a freezer drawer, ice maker, water dispenser, a microwave/conventional oven, a conventional oven, an extra large convection hob, a warming drawer, a dishwasher as well as a washer and a dryer in the boot room. I have accumulated a lot of cook books so, if you like looking at cook books, you are going to be very happy. I hope the kitchen would be thought to be very well stocked with whisk, magi mixer and all the usual stuff. People have told us not to leave personal things like cooks books as they will develop legs, but I am hoping that this is just not true!
What is Perrystone Cottage like in the winter?
It’s lovely! We love our woodburner - it makes the room so cozy and we love the boot room. Coming in from a wet windy walk and leaving all your wet things to dry well away from the living areas is my idea of bliss.
Can I book the house and then have extra people to stay on put up beds?
The short answer is no. This is because, although the living areas are large for the amount of bedrooms, the table is really only comfortable for 8 on a daily basis, 10 at a push.
Which supermarkets will deliver to Burnham Market?
Sainsburys, Waitrose, Tesco and Morrisons will all deliver here. The full address is: Perrystone Cottage, Station Road, Burnham Market, Norfolk. PE31 8HA
Is this a party house?
We have neighbours on both sides so this house is not suitable if you are wanting to have an all night rave. We love our neighbours and do not want to upset them so we ask that you be considerate with music outside (especially around the hot tub).
Hens and Stag parties
Unfortunately we are not able to host hen or stag parties.
Hot tub.
There is a company locally who supply hot tubs. They bring them in, set them up and then take them away at the end of the visit. If you are interested in this let me know your dates and I will find out a price. To give you an idea, I think it is usually around £350 per week.
Who cleans and looks after the house?
Both Andy (in the garden) and Tracy (in the house) used to help my parents so have known us all for years and watched our children grow up. Andy also works as a keeper so he pops in when he can to keep the garden under control. Please do say hello if you see him. Tracy will be in at 10 on your departure day. The one thing which we have promised no one will have to deal with is dog poo, so please do a thorough check around the whole garden before you leave.
